I was looking around the Internet earlier today, browsing various sites, and I happened to open two rather unlikely pages at the same time. I won't share the exact details behind those two pages and my bored reasons for finding them, as they're not entirely flattering and I always try to take myself very seriously, but the end result was my realization that I've been missing something extremely obvious: Justin Bieber and Dante from Devil May Cry may well have been switched at birth. You know, if Dante weren't a fictional character.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has been out for a little under a week now, so the "final" roster has become common knowledge. Not everyone is pleased with it, since many characters from the previous game didn't return, and many potential newcomers didn't make it either. The following is a list of characters that could, or perhaps even should, have been in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

When you sit down to play a Mario sports title, you have the right to expect something special. Mario Golf on the Nintendo 64 was one of the most addictive golf games ever released, a clever and well-executed take on golf made memorable by the crew of golfers that included numerous favorite characters from the Mushroom Kingdom. That release was followed by a string of quality tennis, soccer, baseball and track and field games, always with polish and plenty of fun to go around. Now there is Mario Sports Mix, a compilation of four sporting events—basketball, dodgeball, hockey and volleyball—that arrived on Wii last week. Developed by Square-Enix, the new release appears to do all of the same things right that its predecessors did and even throws in what is perhaps the strangest boss battle that you’ll ever see in a sports title. Unfortunately, none of that adds up to an especially positive recommendation.

At the current moment in time, I'm close to the end of two different RPGs on my XBox 360. I'm at the save point before the final dungeon of the indie game Breath of Death VII, while I'm in the final area of Star Ocean: The Last Hope's main plot. I played both games last night in sort of an unfocused manner. In Breath of Death, I completed the final dungeon of the game's third area and then walked to my current location. Instead of tackling this dungeon, I just wandered around outside fighting a few battles before saving the game and moving to The Last Hope.

I've written a little about the headline features of the upcoming 3DS title Nintendogs + Cats, but seeing a cuddly friend in action is what will really sell. Enter the Japanese trailer for the game. Even though the language is foreign, we can all understand cuteness.

To get loot in Assassin's Creed, you gently pat the pockets of the dude whose throat you just sliced. In Bioshock, you open a corpse in much the same perfunctory way you'd open one of the game's crates or desk drawers. But in Dead Space 2, you stomp something to get the medkit, credits, or ammo out of it. You stomp it with a screenshaking ferocity, a fleshy splurching sound effect, a manly grunt, and a spray of blood and often profanity. It makes curbstomping in Gears of War look like pattycake. Dead Space developer Visceral is bound and determined to live up to the name.

Let me say this first: the current PlayStation 3 bundle is a worthwhile investment. For $300, you get an awful lot for your money and pay the asking price for a ticket that gains you access to a whole world of possibilities. A few years ago, I paid twice that much and didn't even get a nice hard drive, so I have little sympathy for people who look at the tag, scoff and say "Wow, that's way too much for the thing." The problem for Sony, unfortunately, is that Sony needs to muster up a bit more sympathy for those folks than I do.

This one message board I post on has a function where every day, a thread is auto-generated linking to one of the seemingly infinite number of free online games out there. One Chance, which was featured a couple months ago on this site, was one of those games, but there's been a wide variety of titles. Every once in a while, when bored at work, I'll sample the newest selection. Some of them might be low-quality and amateurish, where decent graphics barely serve to mask simplistic, repetitive action. Others, like this one rogue-style dungeon-crawler I played for an hour or so, have promise. However, Lucky Tower (found easily with a Google search) actually made me laugh.
