Earlier this month Epic Games delivered the bad news that Gears of War 3 would be delayed from its original April 5 release date to late 2011. Today, they delivered the good news that Gears fans won’t have to wait that long to play it, with the announcement of a multiplayer beta that will begin in early 2011.

More good news comes from the revelation that Gears 3 will utilize dedicated servers “to drive a balanced, optimized, and thrilling online experience for Gearheads everywhere.” Dedicated servers should level the playing field for players, and the extra development time combined with the feedback from beta testing should help Epic Games to avoid the issues they faced when they released Gears 2.

It may take longer for the final product to be ready, but it seems as if it will be well worth the wait.
