Are you tired of your video games launching without a cartoon movie? Electronic Arts feels your pain and would like to do something about that. The result of that empathy is today's announcement that Electronic Arts and Anchor Bay Entertainment will partner to make available "Dead Space Aftermath" at the time of the next Dead Space game's release early next year.

Dead Space Aftermath will feature several internationally renowned animation directors that use their unique and bold visions to explain what happened during the first-responder mission to Aegis VII, according to the press release. They will do so through the perspective of four survivors in this "fast-paced horrifying thrill ride that stretches the limits of time and space.'

The year is 2509 and not only has Earth lost contact with the uSG Ishimura and Isaac clarke, but also the USG O'Bannon. Sounds grim, right? It should; the USG O'Bannon was the ship sent to rescue clarke and friends. Now it seems that four crew members of the O'Bannon have survived... something... but no one knows what that something is, what happened to the rest of the crew, what they were doing at the time of their apparent demise or what secrets they may be holding if they're still somehow alive. All will be revealed... (drumroll, please)... in the Aftermath!

This is not the first time that Dead space has inspired an animated feature film. If you saw the previous one, perhaps you will be pleased to learn that producer Joe Goyette and supervising director Mike Disa are back for the second round. The new movie will also be produced and animated by Film Roman and will feature a voice cast led by Christopher Judge, Peter Woodward, Graham McTavish, Ricardo Chavira ("Desperate Housewives," represent!) and Gwendoline Yeo. The film will be available on Blu-Ray for $34.99 and on DVD for $26.98, which should effectively ensure that almost no one buys it. Seriously, $35? That's more than half the cost of the actual game!

And yes, Dead Space 2 is planned to be available on January 25, 2011. I'm guessing that most fans will pick up the game and skip the movie entirely, but hey, I've been wrong about things before. For example, I think I've said several times now that there couldn't possibly be another theatrical release in the Resident Evil series. That just goes to show how much I know!
