N Company of Heroes Online Shutting Down

Relic Entertainment has recently announced that the open beta for Company of Heroes Online will be shutting down on March 31st, 2011. Relic will no longer be selling COHO cash, the in-game currency, and they urge all players to spend any that they have already purchased. As a token of their gratitude, Relic is offering everyone who participated in the beta the opportunity to purchase Company of Heroes Gold (which includes the original game and the first, but not the second, expansion) for only $4.99. Although Relic has described the open beta period as "several very successful months," the future of the Company of Heroes franchise appears uncertain and even somewhat grim. The section of their closure FAQ regarding the possibility of a retail release for COHO nebulously states, "We are still working on our plans for the Company of Heroes franchise and are not ready to discuss details yet." Meanwhile, they're encouraging players to play the older games in the franchise, which they describe as having "thriving communities." On the bright side of things, COHO will still be playable for the next two months, and beta testers who don't already own Company of Heroes and Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts can buy these two great games at an unbeatable bargain.
