The popularity contest to crown the cover athlete for Madden 12 has reached the Elite 8. In the first week, the tournament style competition progressed mostly to form. Round 2, though, has delivered some solid upsets. Let's recap the results and look where the bracket could head next week.

Aaron Rodgers (1) vs. Danny Woodhead (4)
Woodhead, the diminutive running back for the New England Patriots, comfortably dispatched Hakeem Nicks, wide receiver for the New York Giants (but not exactly a household name). Rodgers continued to dominate, rolling over Sam Bradford by a 3-to-1 ratio. Is there any way Rodgers can overcome the fans love affair with an undersized white guy? (I'm obligated to call him scrappy.)

The Prediction: Rodgers with at least 60% of the vote.

Jamaal Charles (6) vs. Peyton Hillis (10)
If Woodhead has any hope, then Peyton Hillis provides it. Thanks to the diehard Cleveland fans, Hillis barely edged Matt Ryan, a 2 seed and the rising star QB for the Atlanta Falcons, with a 51/49 split of the votes. Meanwhile, Jamaal Charles seems vulnerable. Despite leading the Kansas City Chiefs to the playoffs and outproducing Maurice Jones-Drew on the field, Charles scraped by MJD by an identical 51/49 margin. He won't have enough star power to hold of Hillis.

The Prediction: Hillis.

Drew Brees (4) vs. Adrian Peterson (9)
The Brees and Peterson matchup makes one thing clear: fans like QBs, but they don't like jerktastic QBs. Peterson convincingly "upset" Philip Rivers, while Brees drubbed cocky Mark Sanchez of the cocky New York Jets. The resulting match is a pick 'em; both these guys are stars. Brees was on the cover last year, though, so most voters will want to change it up.

The Prediction: Peterson.

Michael Vick (3) vs. Patrick Willis (7)
Patrick Willis kept the defensive side of the ball alive, upsetting the productive but not exactly mega-popular Hines Ward. His odds of overcoming Michael Vick are long, though, unless there's some sort of organized force against Vick.

The Prediction: Vick.

Voting for this round will continue through April 11.
