The fan vote to crown the cover athlete of Madden 12 has reached the semifinals. While the remaining 4 players are just as I predicted last week, the results show there may be trouble ahead for overall number 1 seed Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers is the reigning Super Bowl MVP, having led the Green Bay Packers to another championship. He's an all-pro playing the most glamorous position on a storied franchise. His opponent was Danny Woodhead, an undersized running back who statistically isn't on the same planet as anyone left in the competition. And yet Rodgers beat him with the smallest margin of victory of any quarterfinal matchup, 56% to 44%. Every other winner grabbed at least 60% of the vote.

Rodgers' opponent is bruising running back Peyton Hillis, who beat out Jamaal Charles. On paper it's a mismatch, but voters seem hungry for upsets and the unexpected. I'll still pick Rodgers to pull it out, but it should be close.

And I don't think the outcome will matter. Right now, I would take the winner of the other semifinal pairing as the favorite to win it all. Adrian Peterson demolished Drew Brees, while Michael Vick walked over Patrick Willis. Both of these guys are established stars who electrify on the field. Peterson's win over Brees, last year's cover athlete, is more impressive, but Vick's reclamation story seems unstoppable at this point. Vick should win with a comfortable margin.

Voting for this round will continue through April 18.
