Do we need more Noire in LA, or does Noire need to spread around like CSI? Both seem possible after Take-Two's CEO called LA Noire a "powerful new franchise." How many games make a franchise, three or four? Success certainly didn't take long.

Strauss Zelnick elaborated on his words during an investor call, "We have every reason to believe L.A. Noire is another strong franchise for this company. No matter how you slice it, it's a very successful release and to be able to say that again is extraordinary."

It's hard to deny that more Noire would be a good thing. The core idea is irrestible. Solving lurid crimes set in the seedy side of an iconic city, clashing with the ascendent dreams and glitzy facade of Hollywood. Working against the constant undercurrent of a corrupt police force. And the universally lauded MotionScan software captures the most minute facial expressions of every character, bringing a new level of observation to every interrogation. (Though it's really hard to find someone smiling.)

But the overall execution of LA Noire isn't perfect. The detective work needs to require more actual detection and deduction. The faithfully recreated city streets need to be as vibrant as any other character, rather than still life. If any potential sequel can improve execution in these areas, then we might have a successful franchise on our hands.
