Nintendo has issued advanced warning: don't buy a DS Lite right now. The price of the popular handheld, which has already sold more than 48.9 million copies, will drop to $99.99 effective June 5.

"From the moment it launched, Nintendo DS Lite hit a sweet spot for consumers in terms of value, experience and fun," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "This new price point will introduce Nintendo DS Lite to even more consumers."

The $30 drop from the current retail price, along with a huge library of great games, will surely make the DS Lite an attractive option compared to say, the $250 3DS. But hey, Nintendo makes money either way.
