Discounty coming to a variety of platforms in 2025

At the Wholesome Direct 2024 event, which I didn't even know was happening, PQube and Crinkle Cut Games announced that Discounty is now coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, the Epic Games Store, GOG, and Steam sometime next year. As long as you're not hoping to try it on mobile devices or PS4/Xbox One, it sounds like you're covered.
Developed by Crinkle Cut Games, which apparently went to work on the title way back in 2021 with help from the Danish Film Institute, Discounty showed enough promise that publisher PQube invested to help “amplify the scope and reach.” A person might not necessarily expect that sort of support for the niche experience Discounty looks like it will offer, but I'm not complaining. It looks right up my alley!
In Discounty, you'll be introduced to the community of Blomkest, where you'll unearth interesting secrets, establish friendships with the residents, nurture rivalries, and manage a supermarket. To me, it sounds a lot like Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, but with some interesting twists of its own.
Here is a list of features straight from today's press release:
- A Warm-ish Welcome to Blomkest: Your aunt has invited you to manage the local store, 'Discounty', in the run-down harbour town of Blomkest. But beware, not everyone wants you to succeed.
- Build Friendships (or Make Lifelong Enemies): Explore Blomkest after business hours and get to know the townsfolk. Turn them into loyal patrons of Discounty and uncover the town's hidden secrets.
- Design & Decorate Your Very Own Shop: Create an eye-catching, efficient store by rearranging shelves and products. Design inviting aisles for easy navigation and add decorations to encourage purchases!
- Strike Trade Deals With Locals: Blomkestians don't take well to newcomers. Gain manufacturers' trust, make trade deals, and sell local speciality goods to boost Discounty profits!
- Juggle the Responsibilities of a Shopkeeper: Keep shelves stocked, floors clean, and the storage room organised. Ring up customers shopping promptly to keep them happy! No one likes waiting around...
- Expand Your Supermarket Into An Empire: As profits soar, reinvest and grow! Expand your shop to stock more goods and advertise it around town!
- Personalise Your Shopkeeper: Choose your appearance, handpick your outfit, and pick a name that reflects your unique style. Your ever-wise Aunt will always recognise you, no matter your chosen guise.
There's a lot of potential for Discounty to provide a unique (and yet familiar) experience that will appeal to people who like such things. It could be one to watch as its release date draws nigh. After all, 2025 is already closer than I'd like to admit. Where has the time gone?
