Infinity Knights: Xross, a co-op adventure RPG from Timesea Studio, has entered the final 24 hours of its funding drive on Kickstarter. With a few hours remaining, the fantasy title has raised more than $91,000, despite starting with a very specific goal of only $36,269, no doubt thanks in large part to how good the game already looks in the footage provided on the campaign page.
Timesea Studio wears its influences on its sleeve. The game was inspired by 90s Japanese RPGs and retro classics, including the likes of Dark Cloud, Final Fantasy XI, and the Mana series. In particular, it seems to owe a lot to stuff like Secret of Mana, as it features three-player cooperative play (as did that Squaresoft classic).
According to the page, players will “explore a world beyond the Kingdom,” where “alternate rules for life and death, fearsome bosses, and deep dungeons await.” A central theme is immortality, and the focus is on a knight named Xross who embarks on a “life-changing adventure.” He will find the true meaning of being immortal.
“As three brothers, we want to create video games and media with an emphasis on what we believe they are truly all about - fun, curiosity, immersion, and quality,” the developers note. “This all begins with our first entry in the Infinity Knights series, Xross.”
Here is a list of the features you should expect, taken directly from the Xfinity Knights: Xross campaign page on Kickstarter:
There is a lot of additional information on the page linked above, but one of the most exciting tidbits (to me) is word that Hiroki Kikuta will serve as one of the project's composers. His music plays in the video gameplay trailer featured on the campaign page. If you grew up playing retro RPGs, you might recognize him as one of the talents who contributed to the likes of Secret of Mana and Koudelka, as well as the upcoming Visions of Mana.
Infinity Knights: Xross has already reached most of its listed stretch goals, and seems unlikely to reach the final one without a big push, but given its early success, who can say? Make sure to check out the campaign page above if you would like to potentially contribute, or if you just want more details about the game. The clock is ticking!
