Ethics and corrections

Gameroni is a site run by people who love games. We don't all have college degrees or years of ethics training in a conventional newsroom, but we try to hold ourselves to professional standards and will be transparent about the things that matter most.

Conflicts of Interest

As far as possible, we will provide coverage that is free from outside bias. To be specific, we:

  • will not have a critic review games from publishers they have invested in heavily (a few bucks here or there in a Stash portfolio doesn't count, but a sizeable investment would)

  • will not have a writer cover games developed or represented by family members, romantic partners, or other such individuals without conspicuous notice provided in any resulting articles

  • will not accept monetary compensation in exchange for reviews written from a favorable perspective, including paid advertising on the site with the promise of a glowing review or other types of coverage

  • may occasionally work with writers who provide consulting services for game developers, including mock reviews, translations, and other content. When writers have performed paid work related to a game, they will not review it on our site, and will disclose that work if providing other types of coverage.

  • may receive keys so we can write reviews, previews, guides, and other coverage types. We disclose that fact when posting reviews, but do not consider it a conflict of interest. For more information, see our full review policy.

We're not perfect, and lapses in judgment are possible, but we aim to avoid conflicts.

AI Content

We believe that text generated by LLMs devalues game journalism as a whole. We want our writers to produce their own work, and with a personal touch. Basic tools, including spellcheck and edits by grammar software, are acceptable for surface-level polish.

Any necessary research we conduct will build on personal experience and primary sources, with AI tools allowed for fact-checking but never to write. Our constant aim is to provide superior original content that LLMs are likely to steal, rather than machine-generated slop you might find anywhere else.

Sponsored Content

Any sponsored content and affiliate links will be clearly labeled. You will find prominent markers on any pages where they appear.

We do not currently accept sponsored posts written by outside sources, because we believe our readers come to the site for our own impressions, not commentary that has been paid for by an interested third party.

Advertising

We are happy to accept advertising on the site from companies that are relevant to our audience's interests. Most ads will be arranged automatically, through networks such as AdSense, but we are open to arrangements with game publishers, gamer lifestyle brands, and all relevant points between.

Ads displayed on the site show an "Advertisement" label, to prevent any confusion. We currently feature banners in several sizes, including some banners that run in the site's main column.

No advertising agreement comes with the expectation of positive editorial coverage, or any coverage at all.

Corrections

In the event that we make mistakes, we will update impacted articles accordingly. Minor errors, such as typos and grammatical errors, misspelled game titles, or similar matters will be corrected without notice. Misattributed quotes and major factual errors will be corrected with text to mark the original error.

We take accuracy seriously, and hope to make such corrections only infrequently. If you do find an error worth correcting in an article on the site, please let us know.
