Crafting, exploring, and trees, oh my!

Sometime during the first half of 2025, players should have the option to buy Lost Legions, a game about honor and battle and exploration and crafting. It's set in Rome, but currently being developed by Tarock Interactive in present-day Germany.

Students of history know that at one point, the Roman empire was a pretty big place and lasted for a good long while. This game will focus on the events of the Varian disaster, within Germany's beautiful but rugged Teutoburg Forest region.

Players will encounter multiple biomes ranging from forests to icy mountain tops while scavenging for resources. They'll craft weapons and armor, which they'll then use to battle barbarian tribes and local beasties. And they'll construct fortified war camps, and also recruit legionaries to do their bidding. The ultimate goal is to recover the three banners of the Lost Legions to reclaim Rome's honor.

Today's press release highlighted a few key features:

  • Exploration: Uncover the secrets of a vast and diverse open world, filled with unique challenges and opportunities.
  • Crafting & Building: Gather resources, design and construct powerful tools, weapons, and fortified Roman war camps.
  • Outstanding Storyline: Embark on a captivating narrative as you unravel the mysteries behind the lost legions and fight to restore Rome's honor.
  • Save and Recruit Legionaries: Encounter fellow Roman soldiers and convince them to join your cause. Train and command your legionaries to build, fight, and explore alongside you.

That all sounds pretty good to me, and I'm not even usually big on crafting games. I'm usually more interested in hacking my enemies to bits. But it seems there will be enough of that to go around, as well.

The game may be somewhere around a year away, but if you're feeling antsy, you can add Lost Legions to your wish list on Steam ahead of that.
