Venatrix emerges from the shadows with its sights set on Steam

Well, that's ominous...

Playstige Interactive is bringing Venatrix to Steam in this year's second quarter, the independent studio announced today in a press release. The game, combining action and stealth with a horror aesthetic, is already available on Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

In Venatrix, players choose between two protagonists: Matthew, who lives to battle Lovecraftian monsters while investigating the occult, and Della, who is hanging out in the same area for reasons not made clear. They both have inner demons, though, which they will battle as they take a merry little tour of the eerie Hartford Mansion and Carcosa Asylum. Oh, and there are puzzles.

The game promises two playstyles and storylines, a haunting soundtrack, and lots of bells and whistles made possible by Unreal Engine 5. Here's a list of features unapologetically yanked from today's press release:

  • A unique hybrid of action-packed and stealth-based horror gameplay.
  • Two playable characters: Matthew Kolth and Della Hartfort.
  • Two distinct playstyles: third-person action/horror and first-person stealth/horror.
  • The choice between navigating nightmarish scenes as Matthew, a paranormal investigator, or stealthily evading monsters as Della.
  • Exploration of ghastly Lovecraftian-inspired realms.
  • Dive into characters' psyches and experience ethereal dream sequences.
  • Battle against terrifying monsters from other dimensions and outer space.
  • Solve mind-bending puzzles to progress through the game.
  • More than 20 types of enemies to encounter or avoid.
  • Two intertwining storylines.
  • Enigmatic puzzles set in diverse H.P Lovecraft-inspired locations.
  • Ominous dynamic soundtrack.
  • Powered by Unreal Engine 5, featuring Lumen, Nanite, 4K Resolution, and Ray-Tracing.

Venatrix arrived on the console platforms mentioned above in September of last year, and appears to have gone largely ignored by critics. However, I did find a video analysis on YouTube. That's better than nothing, right?
