The next installment in the Homeworld series is now available to purchase on Steam and the Epic Games Store, publisher Gearbox announced today. Homeworld 3 is the latest entry in the strategy series, which dates back to 1999.
Originally developed by Relic Entertainment, the series has been carried forward by Blackbird Interactive since Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in 2016. That studio is responsible again for Homeworld 3, which is the first major release in the franchise in 8 years.
According to the press release, you should expect the following key features:
A storyline set 100 years after the events of Homeworld 2, with a new protagonist working to determine the meaning of “the anomaly” in order to save the galaxy.
New dimensions of strategic gameplay with cover-based tactics and varied terrain, all rendered in stunning, state-of-the-arg graphics to simulate real-time ship damage, accompanied by responsive audio that helps create greater immersion and realism.
A ‘War Games’ mode for cooperative play, fusing RTS gameplay with roguelike elements as up to three human players claim rewards and grow stronger over successive runs.
A classic ‘Skirmish’ mode to test tactical skills against human and AI opponents, with battles that accommodate as many as six totaly players (along with mod support made possible through a partnership with Mod.io).
The average Homeworld 3 score on Metacritic is currently 79, after four ratings, but that number could change a lot by the time critics at additional outlets put more time in with the game. Are you excited to return to Homeworld?
