Off-Leash Interactive, Trollheim Studios, and Fireshine Games today announced Trollheim: Gnomes, an interactive experience that serves as part of the transmedia fantasy IP, Trollheim.
The game is a crafting title and takes place within the procedurally-generated forest, where the few remaining Sprýg Gnomes leave Midgård and seek to reunite in the Dark Forest. The forest is a magical realm, filled with creatures that include not only the gnomes, but trolls, faeries, sirens, and more.
The Trollheim IP is based on ancient Nordic folklore and spans media ranging from books and games, to collectibles, film, and even lifestyle items. On May 19 of this year, Titan books published Trollheim: Tale of Sýstir, and the new game should fit right in with that.
In terms of gameplay, you'll apparently spend much of your time gathering resources to shelter from the cold weather. When you're not fighting off hunger, you'll be able to build dwellings high in the treetops, inside hollowed out logs, between rocks, or near forest lakes.

Because you are a gnome, the breathtaking world around you holds unique threats. After all, you're not any taller than a pinecone. Food goes further when you find it, but bringing it home will surely prove dangerous.
Today's press release promises emergent gameplay, with a variety of outcomes that you can enjoy either alone or with as many as seven other players.
From what I can tell, Trollheim is a developing IP with the potential to hit it big, if readers or players respond well to the branding. As for Trollheim: Gnomes, it appears to be in good hands. Today's press release noted that several team members involved in its creation formerly worked at Mojang (Minecraft), so a certain amount of pedigree is involved.
You'll find the official Steam listing for Trollheim: Gnomes live on the storefront right now. There's no option to purchase the Early Access version just yet, but it sounds like we won't have long to wait; it's due to arrive later this year.
