Square Enix today released Kingdom Hearts Collection [1-3]. As the title makes clear, it collects a number of previous releases to let players experience the story thus far, ahead of the eventual release of Kingdom Hearts 4.

Kingdom Hearts Collection [1-3] combines Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 + Re Mind, bringing them together in one place for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (by way of the Microsoft Store).

Those three titles were each compilations or DLC containing multiple entries in the series, which Square Enix helpfully broke down as follows:

  • KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- (Digital only)

    • KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX

    • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories

    • KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX

    • KINGDOM HEARTS 358/2 Days (HD cutscene compilation)

    • KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX

    • KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded (HD cutscene compilation)

  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (Digital only)

    • KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD

    • KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover (movie)

    • KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth By Sleep

  • KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) (Digital only)

    • KINGDOM HEARTS III

    • KINGDOM HEARTS Re Mind (DLC)

  • KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] (Physical and Digital)

    • All games from the KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) bundles

It's possible you already own some of those games on one or more platforms, you being a huge Kingdom Hearts fan and all. In that case, Square Enix has your back; the components of the bundle are also available separately (as digital downloads only), each in a form that doesn't require cloud streaming.

If you already own the individual games on Nintendo Switch, where they were released as cloud versions, you can secure a 50% discount on your digital post-launch purchase of the new editions. The same is true if you had it on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Nintendo Switch owners also have the option to transfer their save data to the Switch 2, though no such feature is available for the other platforms. Check right here for more specifics about the discount.

From what I can tell, it's a good idea to take advantage of the discount and save transfer while you can, if you happen to own the cloud versions. Square Enix stopped selling those editions in June of this year, and has announced plans to discontinue the service on June 9, 2027 at 7:59AM (PDT). Yikes!

When you purchase certain games from the bundle, or the bundle itself, you also gain access to an in-game item. The exact one you receive varies by platform, as this description I stole from today's press release explains:

  • Nintendo Switch 2: Buy the digital or physical editions of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] or the digital edition of KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) and receive a Long Night keyblade

  • PlayStation 5: Buy the digital or physical editions of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] or the digital edition of KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) and receive a Midnight Blue keyblade

  • XBOX Series X|S: Buy the digital edition of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] or the digital edition of KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC) and receive a Phantom Green keyblade

Keyblades are a big deal in the Kingdom Hearts universe, as we all know, so those are some pretty exciting incentives.

The Kingdom Hearts series is terrific, but writing about it sometimes exhausts me, simply because of how unique the titles get, combined with the presentation of lore that goes far beyond the "Final Fantasy meets Disney" concept that first enticed me to play the first game in the series. If you share my casual interest in the series but you haven't played through everything quite yet and you're worried you might miss something, Kingdom Hearts Collection [1-3] sounds like the perfect investment.
