Once Upon a Katamari is now available to enjoy on your Switch 2, Bandai Namco announced this morning in a press release. The game has already been available on Switch, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X since launching for those platforms on Oct. 24, 2025.
Developed by Rengame, Once Upon a Katamari is the next installment in a franchise that dates back to the PlayStation 2 original. Broadly, the idea is that you are the son of the King of the Cosmos, and you roll a sticky ball around to repair damage inflicted on the universe by your irresponsible father.
There was a time when the concept seemed almost too bizarre for words, but now the series has been around a long enough time that we kind of just roll with it.
In Once Upon a Katamari, The Prince explores time itself, gathering objects in various historical periods to restore the stars to the heavens. Along the way, he'll enjoy a peppy new soundtrack, customization options, power-ups, and a competitive multiplayer mode.
On the Switch 2, a few new features arrive, including new mouse controls and a smoother framerate with enhanced graphics compared to the original Switch version. If you already have the game on Switch and you would like to upgrade to the Switch 2 edition, you can transfer your existing save data to the new hardware, provided you haven't already started an adventure. Neat.
Once Upon a Katamari also has DLC available, both on Switch 2 and on the various other versions. It adds new quests and music inspired by Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE, a mobile game you might not have been aware existed.
At present, Once Upon a Katamari is available on Switch 2 on the eShop for $39.99 if you want the standard edition. There also is a Rolling Live Highlights Edition, which includes the base game and the DLC for a regular price of $49.99. From now through Oct. 17, 2026 at 11:59PM, it's available for $44.99, which is something to think about if you're on the hunt for bargains.
