Usual June isn't releasing until Jan. 20, 2027, developer Finji announced today in a press release. The team hopes the additional weeks of development will allow it to provide the quality experience fans deserve.

Finji co-founders Adam and Bekah Saltsman issued the following statement:

Usual June’s launch date is now January 20th, 2027. While we are very eager to get this game out into the world, and we could probably get away with blaming this change on GTA 6, the truth is we just want to make sure the launch builds are as amazing as we can. We want to show the hard work from all our brilliant collaborators in the best light possible, and this extra time allows us to do that. This is a truly special game, and the people who worked on it deserve the best launch we can do. Thank you for understanding, and we can’t wait for you to finally play through this whole adventure very, very soon.

The game features a cast of 25 characters, who players will get to know as they solve the mystery of what is happening in Fen Harbor. They'll have to piece together photographic memories of the dead and get to the bottom of everything before the ghosts all disappear and time expires.

Usual June presents a variety of environments, ranging from secret labs to buried tunnels, haunted observatories, and more. There's also talk of some "other world," and powers that players gain by battling in arenas with fast, fluid, and "expressive" combat.

A fairly impressive group of people came together to work on Unusual June, including writer David Pinckney (Needle & Thread), writer Cara Ellison (The Seance of Blake Manor), and audio director Adam Hay (Everybody's Gone to the Rapture). If they believe they need more time to get everything quite right, I believe them and welcome the superior game that will likely result.

Finji also showcased a new trailer at the Cozy After Dark Steam event, which you'll find embedded above. It probably won't make the wait for Jan. 20 any easier, but at least you can see the game looking pretty on your computer screen. There's also a demo available to download and play from the official Steam page, if that's your thing.
