Lyrical Games and One More Level today released the launch trailer for Valor Mortis, while announcing that the game will be available at a discount for some folks with especially great taste in video games. My words, not theirs. But I suspect they would agree.

Today's press release started with the trailer announcement, and you'll find that trailer embedded below. There was also word of interviews with Vincent Cassel (who plays Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte) and actress Jennifer English (who plays The Shrike). And then there is that discount.

By default, Valor Mortis is priced at $39.99 USD for the standard edition. A more deluxe edition, including a DLC due next year and several cosmetic packs along the way, will retail for $59.99. You can apparently get either version for 10% off, provided you buy the game alongside one of several qualifying titles, or already have them in your Steam library.

The titles in question are Dishonored, No Rest for the Wicked, Mouse: P.I. For Hire, Ghostrunner, and Ghostrunner 2. I already have two of them, so it sounds like I'm set.

Next there is the matter of those interviews I mentioned. Here is the first one, with Jennifer English:

Jennifer discusses her role as The Shrike, who doesn't think much of Napoleon and his war. The second clip, featuring Vincent Cassel (who previously appeared in the movie Black Swan), is available here:

There's no video with James Alexander, who portrays the protagonist, but you'll probably hear plenty from him as you play through the game. Here's a list of features from today's press release to let you know what to expect:

  • A Grand Napoleonic Narrative: Napoleon’s conquest has unleashed something far more horrifying than war. Play as William, a resurrected soldier of the Grande Armée guided by Napoleon’s disembodied voice, as you traverse ravaged battlefields, sprawling mountains, and historical cities consumed by a grotesque plague — the same corruption that pulses through William’s veins and gave him life.

  • First-Person Soulslike Combat: Challenging, stamina-and-skill-based combat designed to feel threatening and immersive, drawing on One More Level’s expertise in first-person perspective. Every death is a stepping stone to mastery as you perfect your ability to parry blows, dash out of harm’s way, and deliver ravaging, visceral finishers.

  • Dual-Wielding and Supernatural Powers: Master fluid combat by weaving together Napoleonic-era weaponry, such as rapiers and flintlock pistols, while also utilizing William’s devastating supernatural abilities.

  • Metroidvania-Style Exploration: Use William’s newfound mobility to outrun and flank Napoleon’s plague-ridden Eternal Guard. Progress carefully, uncover environmental secrets, and survive the rotting remnants of an endless war.

  • Superb Audiovisual Quality: A disturbing aesthetic built on theatrical lighting and mature, grim themes, with an original score co-composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski, known for his work on Silent Hill 2 Remake, The Medium, and Layers of Fear 1 and 2, alongside in-house composer Oskar Bała.

Valor Mortis is the next big project from the developer responsible for the two Ghostrunner games. It looks pretty spiffy, I have to say, though it also reeks of difficulty. That was already implied by the "Soulslike Combat" claim, so I'm sure you're not surprised.

Look for Valor Mortis starting Oct. 13, 2026. It will be available on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X, including on Xbox Game Pass from day one. It's almost like someone wants you to play it.
