Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Main Mission 05: The City in the Shadow of Prism Tower

This is the first mission where the temptation to wander and explore is also rewarded by the provided objectives. You'll have more freedom than usual, and you'll need to take advantage of it.

Head outside.

You begin the mission in the hotel lobby, and your first task is to head outside.

When you arrive outside, you'll meet Tarragon, of Racine Construction. He has good news for Taunie. He also talks about courses where you can find collectibles called Colorful Screws, which you can then exchange for prizes. One such prize is the Red Canari Plush, and he hands one over to you for free in this first interaction.

After Tarragon leaves, Taunie tells you about her shortcut to Centrico Plaza.

Learn the “secret shortcut” from Taunie.

Taunie leads you around the side of the hotel to a grassy area against the building. Previously, you may have noticed a ladder here with pink crystals blocking you from climbing it. These are called Mega Crystals, and you can destroy them the same way you can rock.

Smash the Mega Crystals using one of your Pokemon's moves.

Get within close range of the crystals. Then bring out your Bunnelby, which has the Rock Smash move.

Use Rock Smash to quickly destroy the crystals on the ladder. You receive 10 Mega Shards as a reward. Typically, you will receive only a few shards for destroying such crystals. You want to take them out whenever you find them, because they can also be traded in for rewards.

Take the secret route over the rooftops with Taunie.

Follow Taunie up the ladder, head forward, and drop from the roof to a lower railed balcony area. There are more of the Mega Crystals in a patch of grass to the right here. And, in fact, you'll find them all over the city as you complete this mission. Make sure to continue destroying them as you find them, both for the shards you gain and for the easy experience.

There is a metal catwalk you can use to cross to the far rooftop, where Taunie waits for you. When you reach that side, destroy a bunch of crystals as you head through the area. At the far end, you'll meet up with Taunie again at the top of a short staircase. In the distance, you can see Prism Tower. Built at the center of the city, it's difficult to miss.

Continue along the rooftops, destroying more crystals as you go, and you'll reach the edge of a rooftop to find Taunie standing on the ground below you. She explains that you can safely drop that long distance without coming to harm.

Take a leap of faith down to Taunie.

As instructed, walk off the edge of the building. You'll automatically jump out and drop toward the ground below, but your Rotom Phone acts as a parachute for the last part of that drop. You have activated safe landing mode and will enjoy that benefit whenever you drop a long way with your phone in hand. Taunie then walks a few steps to reach the edge of Wild Zone 2. She encourages you to explore it and then promises to meet you nearby.

Meet up with Taunie at the Nouveau Cafe truck near Centrico Plaza.

Taunie wants to give you a tour of the parts of the city near Prism Tower. She has headed off to the food truck, but you don't have to go after her immediately.  If you prefer, you can enter the nearby wild zone. There are several Pokemon creatures you can catch there.

If you like, you can also take a quick detour down the nearby alley and destroy some rocks to find the Headbutt TM, which I recommend doing because it doesn't take long at all.

I also recommend that you take a moment to capture some new varieties of Pokemon within Wild Zone 2. In general, it's a good idea to explore each new wild zone as you find it, to open up some neat options. The Pokemon you find may also help you complete objectives. In this case, you can easily find creatures such as Budew, Magikarp, Binacle, and Patrat.

When you're done adding to your team, follow the map to meet with Taunie at the food truck along the west side of Wild Zone 2. While you are there, you can have a snack delivered by the food truck. You also meet a new character, Vinnie, who works for Quasartico Inc.

Head to Emma's detective agency with Taunie.

Now that you've eaten, Taunie leads you toward Emma's detective agency. For now, follow her around the circular wall at the base of the huge tower. You can destroy mega crystals as you go, or return to them later.

Taunie announces that you are in the Rouge District. She sees a crowd gathered and runs off toward it. You should follow, but first I recommend a slight detour to the nearby Pokemon Center, so you gain access to it as a fast travel point. Then follow after Taunie.

When you catch up with Taunie, you see that someone is giving a speech to onlookers near the entrance to Wild Zone 3. His name is Ivor, and he claims to speak on behalf of the Fist of Justice. After the speech, one of his companions challenges you to a duel. Her name is Josee.

Josee attacks with Machop. It can put up quite a fight, so be ready to heal your Pokemon as you battle. I found that Tepig made a decent choice out of my limited roster at the time of the battle. Next, Josee tosses out a Meditite. Tepig is again a decent choice.

When you win the battle, Ivor teaches you how to change moves your Pokemon knows. You can only equip up to four moves at once, and you always want the best options available, so you will use this knowledge frequently over the course of your adventure.

You can explore Wild Zone 3 if you like, or you can immediately follow after Taunie. She heads to an alley to the northwest of the wild zone. When you catch up to her, you will meet Mimi, a Pokemon who works with Emma. Then you head inside for a conversation with Emma. She asks for your help with some of your missions. When you accept, you open up a new variety of side mission. You'll need to complete several of them to proceed.

Complete three side missions, using the icons on your map as your guide.

There are three side missions immediately available to you, and you have to complete all three of them to finish your current mission. You can complete them in any order, and work on multiple side missions at the same time.

You can't continue your mission until you finish all three of the above side missions. It's not a horrible idea to take your time on them, so you can find more loot and add additional Pokemon to your roster and level them up for challenging battles to come.

Report to Emma that you completed all three side missions.

With your missions out of the way, return to Emma to let her know about your success. She tells you about the Mega Evolution.

Learn about Mega Evolution from Emma.

Follow Emma outside and meet her along the walkway to the right. She demonstrates the Mega Evolution in combat.

Emma starts out with a Mareep. You should be able to take it out fairly easily with a starter Pokemon such as Tepig. Once you do, Emma tells you that Mareep can evolve into Flaaffy, which in turn can evolve into Ampharos. Fortunately, you don't have to battle either of those varieties to learn the lesson.

Making it through the lesson completes the mission. Immediately, you receive a call on your Rotom Phone, and the next mission activates.
