Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Main Mission 12: A Rogue Mega Camerupt

As you complete Main Mission 10: The Secrets of Mega Evolution, you attend a strategy meeting where the team members discuss plans to take down three Rogue Pokemon monsters. You can target the three monsters in any order you like, and each one has its own mission number.

The Rogue Mega Camerupt's location on the map is easy to spot, but you have to work to reach it. Approach from the northeast and you'll find members of Dyna4mo, led by Tarragon. They aren't eager to let you through their work site, even though you need to pass in order to meet your adversary. Finally, you'll be challenged by Tony.

Boss Battle: Tony of Dyn4mo

Tony should not be a challenging opponent, given what you've faced thus far. He attacks with Tynamo (Electric) and Numel (Fire).

Don't worry about saving your energy, or using a lot of healing items. Just hit them hard and fast to eliminate them quickly. When you win, you receive 1,536 Poke Dollars. Tarragon also restores your Pokemon's HP and clears the path so you can explore.

Climb up the scaffolding using ladders and boards stretched between gaps. It's a straight-forward ascent to a rooftop area where your enemy is waiting. When you're ready, challenge it to a battle.

Boss Battle: Rogue Mega Camerupt

The first thing to know about this battle is that you'll want to have a Water-type Pokemon along with you. Lida already helps by attacking with a Clauncher, but you want something that packs a little more firepower. Ideally, you should have a creature capable of a Mega Evolution.

If you selected Totodile as your starter, that's the obvious choice. If you're like me and selected a different one, you'll need some other option. Assuming you already cleared the Rogue Mega Slowbro mission, a powered up Slowbro (carrying the Slowbronite) is your best bet. In a pinch, a Slowpoke can work, simply because its elemental affinities let it survive a lot of fire damage.

The Rogue Mega Camerupt is at level 34. Try to have your friend powered up to that level or a bit higher, and bring along a few powerful potions and a Revive or two. Then, run around the arena and use moves such as Water Pulse to inflict damage. You want to use the ‘+’ version of any water-based moves you have available, so that your enemy drops the bits of energy you can use to build toward a Mega Evolution. Then, while evolved, you should move in and hit your enemy hard. In my case, I swapped in Absol when the time came for the Mega Evolution, since I hadn't yet powered up and evolved Slowpoke.

Keep in mind that you don't want to get too close to the Camerupt yourself. Leave close-quarters combat to your Pokemon. Also, keep an eye on what Camerupt is doing at all times. Its favorite move is to bring down molten rocks on the battlefield, then slowly build to a hot eruption. When you see that happening, try to steer clear of the rocks but especially the Camerupt. If you're too close, you'll get caught up in the blaze. You're better off staying at a distance (along with your Pokemon) and then moving in again when the way is clear.

When you win the fight, you receive Cameruptite. The mission also concludes.
