Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Main Mission 07: Reaching Rank W

You're moving up through the ranks pretty quickly, and this chapter explores how that makes some of your friends feel. There are some tougher challenges along the way, which makes this a good time to focus on powering up your monsters.

Battle Naveen in front of Hotel Z.

Your first objective is to go outside for a battle with Naveen. When you head outside the building, you'll find him directly ahead of you. If you don't feel up to facing him right now, that's fine.  You can simply head around him without initiating a conversation. Explore the city as you see fit, completing side missions or finding items or whatever else. Then return when you're ready.

When you do battle  Naveen, you'll face a series of Pokemon that don't fare especially well against strong fire attacks: Spinarak, Sableye, and Scraggy.

If you have Tepig and have evolved him into Pignite and taught him the Flame Wheel move, the fights will end almost before you know it. Otherwise, they may extend a bit longer but you should still win if you have healing items.

Get a Challenger's Ticket, then find Xavi for your promotion match.

Naveen leaves and then you receive word that your opponent for the next promotion match has been decided. You will be going up against Xavi, but first you need the Challenger's Ticket.

To acquire the Challenger's Ticket, you must earn 4,000 points in the Battle Zone. This one is located to the west of Rouge Plaza, extending toward the northwest. Enter it once darkness falls and it activates. Once it does activate, you might be far away from it, depending on where you have explored. Don't forget that you can fast travel to get closer and waste less time.

As usual, sneak through the Battle Zone and find a variety of opponents that combined will give you enough points to earn the desired ticket in a single night, provided you make use of the available Bonus Cards.

Note the yellow arrow near the lower right side of the Battle Zone area on the map. At that location, you can find a Holovator that takes you to a rooftop. The first opponent you face on the higher ground is pretty easy, but you can climb to find a second Pokemon Trainer that poses a greater threat. I recommend taking out the first one but leaving the second one for later, if you deal with them at all.

Boss Battle: Xavi

Once you have your ticket, you can challenge Xavi. You'll find him at the back of a long hallway you enter from the south.

Xavi relies mostly on Plant-type creatures, so you'll want to use some fire heavy hitters. If Tepig is your starter, there's your option (although by now, you should have evolved it to Pignite). Xavi brings out several Pokemon: Venipede, Kadabra, Roselia, and Furfrou.

Of the lot, I found that Kadabra was the most dangerous, since its Psybeam attack deals a lot of damage against fire-based critters. You're better off swapping out for someone like Bunnelby for that round. If you are battling using Tepig or Pignite, make sure to restore its HP periodically as it takes damage, so that a lucky shot doesn't take it out in a single hit.

When you defeat Xavi, you receive 1,260 Poke Dollars and your rank improves from X to W. Some cutscenes follow and then your next mission begins.
